Meet the Interns: Morgan Smith
(Jacksonville Office)

1. Tell us a little about yourself...

My name is Morgan Smith and I am currently studying Child Psychology at Florida State College of Jacksonville. I have aspirations to be accepted into the University of Florida’s online degree program for psychology. I am passionate about equal rights and I hope to make an impact not only in Florida, but extend into the U.S. and even the world.

2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?

I deeply and sincerely believe in equal rights for everyone. No person should be discriminated against and it breaks my heart that there is a group of people being discriminated against based on who they love and who they are. Something needs to be done about this problem and I want to be a part of the effort that achieves equality for all.

3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?

During my first encounter with Equality Florida, I sensed a passion for equality as deep as my own within the staff and volunteers. From that moment on I knew that I wanted to be a part of this organization in some way. I feel extremely lucky to be a part of this movement, but especially to be working with Equality Florida. This organization has already done so much for Florida’s LGBT community and I can not wait to contribute to their efforts.

4. What are your plans after you graduate?

After I graduate with a bachelors, I plan to pursue a masters degree in child psychology. Once I complete my degree I plan to become a child psychologist. I believe that children are the foundation of the world, and I hope to one day be a part of building that foundation into a strong one by helping children heal after they have been through a traumatic experience.
