Meet the Interns: Ella Delva
Meet the Interns: Ella Delva
(Legislative Intern)
1. Tell us a little about yourself...
Hello! My name is Ella Delva and I am a senior studying Political Science at the University of Florida. I was born and raised in South Florida and I maintain that it is the best place on earth. When I’m not writing snazzy intern profiles I can be found watching, playing, and writing about sports. Go Heat! Go Dolphins! Go Mets! (No not a typo). I also enjoy unnecessarily long family vacations and…movies.
2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?
I have faced discrimination and harassment for being black, gay and a woman. I understand the helplessness, anger, and fear one feels after being subjected to ridicule and hate based on something completely out of their control. I hope that through my experience and work with Equality Florida that I can help shape a world where future generations don’t have to face what I’ve faced. That is why I am involved with LGBT activism.
3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?
As a Political Science major I couldn’t help but admire the way Equality Florida affects policy and eventually people’s lives. More so than anything else I’d love to be a part of an organization that does achieve substantive change.
4. What are your plans after you graduate?
To take over the world! However, I am sure that wouldn’t ensure many weekends off. Realistically I plan to go to law school and eventually work for the NFL, if I can swing it. Beyond that my future plans involve an unapologetic happiness.
