Georgia Elects First Openly Lesbian African American Woman to State Legislature!
On Tuesday, December 1st Simone Bell won Georgia State House District 58 by 614 votes, a margin of 56% to 44%, making her the first openly gay black woman elected to any state legislature in U.S. history!
Simone has worked as an activist and advocate in Atlanta and across the south for more than 20 years. She’s tackled a broad range of issues including workplace equality, access to affordable health care, fighting HIV/AIDS stigma and discrimination, safe schools for all children, youth empowerment and women’s issues.
Simone had come in 2nd in November's General Election.
