Equality Florida Action PAC Endorses David Jolly for Governor
St. Petersburg, Fla. — Equality Florida Action PAC today announced its endorsement of David Jolly for Governor of Florida, calling his candidacy an opportunity to chart a new course for the state after three decades of right-wing control.
“Decades of failed leadership in the Governor’s mansion have saddled us with chaos, division, rising costs, and an all out assault on equality and freedom,” said Joe Saunders, Executive Director of Equality Florida Action PAC. “Floridians are ready for change–for a state that gives everyone a fair shot, treats everyone with the dignity they deserve, and reflects our belief in a better, more equal future for all. David Jolly is the leader this moment demands. Make no mistake; the pendulum is swinging back toward equality in America. Our community rejects the politicians who have spent years manufacturing hate and trying to divide us. It’s time to send David Jolly to the Governor’s mansion.”
Jolly has a yearslong history of support for equality. He announced his support for marriage equality in 2014, joined the bipartisan effort to protect workplace nondiscrimination protections via the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, and has vocally defended the rights of parents to access health care for their transgender children without politicians inserting themselves into the doctor’s office. Jolly opposes the scourge of book bans that have surged across states like Florida and has painted a vision of a Florida where all are welcome. All of which stands in stark contrast to the failed leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, who has spent his tenure demonizing marginalized communities, terrorizing families, pitting neighbors against each other, and ignoring the escalating cost of living crisis that is making life harder for everyone.
Under the DeSantis administration, Florida has become synonymous with the anti-LGBTQ and anti-democracy attacks that now grip the country. Our state has led the charge on censoring classrooms, banning books, tearing health care from transgender people of all ages, undermining access to HIV care, weaponizing government against businesses who dare to support their LGBTQ workers and customers, and more. In Jolly, Floridians have a chance to turn the page on this dark chapter in Florida’s history and build a better future together.
Meanwhile, Jolly’s likely general election opponent, Byron Donalds, has already shown us that rather than respond to the pressing needs of Floridians, he intends to continue the DeSantis playbook of attacking and demonizing vulnerable communities in service to his political ambition. Donalds reportedly launched his general election campaign with a $25 million ad attacking transgender people. But that strategy has been tried – and backfired. When former Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears’ attempted a similar, massive anti-transgender ad campaign in 2025, she was beaten handily. Voters have made clear that they are tired of Republican politicians like Donalds obsessing over and attacking transgender people instead of addressing the issues that actually affect their lives: cratering affordability, skyrocketing insurance costs, and the basic needs of everyday Floridians.
