TODAY: The U.S. Senate Committee Will Discuss ENDA At 10AM
Today at 10:00am the US Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will discuss the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). ENDA is a bill that would federally prohibit discrimination on the basis on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression. Right now 17 states and the District of Columbia ban discrimination for LGBT people, but the remaining 33 do not. Florida has no statewide law, but 6.4 million Floridians live in a municipality that prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression.
The bill, introduced by Senator Jeff Merkley [OR], has the support of 53 US Senators. Neither of Florida's Senators, Bill Nelson or Marco Rubio, have signed on in support.
