Republicans In Congress Hijack Defense Bill, Blocking Health Care For Trans Children Of Military Service Members

Republican leaders hijacked the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), turning a vital $855 billion military spending bill into a weapon for their extremist agenda. Instead of focusing on pay raises for troops, improvements to on-base housing, and expanded support for low-income military families, they inserted a cruel provision that blocks medically necessary care for transgender children of military service members.

This shameful political maneuver puts the healthcare decisions of vulnerable children in the hands of politicians, stripping families of their right to consult with doctors and make the best choices for their loved ones.

We commend Senator Tammy Baldwin and the 20 Senate Democrats who fought to remove this harmful language. Equality Florida stands with our national and state partners in urging President Biden to veto this bill and demand a clean version that supports all service members and their families without discrimination.
