Meet the Interns: Laura Melendez Parra
(Gainesville Office)
1. Tell us a little about yourself...
I am a Freshman at the University of Florida, majoring in psychology. I may also minor in business. I like riding my bike and going swimming, although I am very bad at swimming.
2. Why are you involved with LGBT activism?
I am involved with LGBT activism because I think everyone deserves a chance to be treated fairly under the law and a chance to make their own happiness. I think a big part of making your own happiness is being able to marry who you want and create a family unit that is recognized under the legal system.
3. Why did you want to intern at Equality Florida?
I am an intern at Equality Florida because I believe in marriage equality and am against workforce discrimination of any type. Equality Florida provides me the forum to advocate for that.
4. What are your plans after you graduate?
I plan to work in Human Resources, whether it be for a government enterprise or a private business.
