The bill, introduced by Senator Dan Gelber and Representative Kelly Skidmore, would add sexual orientation and gender identity to the state law that already protects people based on race, religion, sex, age and disability.
The Florida Competitive Workforce Act would add Florida to the growing list of states, Fortune 500 businesses and municipalities across the country that include LGBT people in their non-discrimination policies.
Over a dozen counties and cities in Florida already protect LGBT people, but currently there is no statewide law. Many private employers, like Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Florida and Walt Disney, know that by including LGBT people in their non-discrimination policies they are able to compete in an ever-changing marketplace by attracting the best and brightest to their company.
Equality Florida is proud to have worked with Senator Gelber and Representative Skidmore to craft this important this important legislation. You can help support our efforts by signing on to support the bill by clicking here.
