Federal court strikes down Florida ban on marriage

For proponents of civil rights and marriage equality, the last year has been remarkably successful, though there have been some recent bumps in the road. A state court in Tennessee, for example, interrupted the winning streak last week, while the U.S. Supreme Court halted Virginia marriages that had been set to begin today.



When the Atlantic Beach commission passed an ordinance banning discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people on August 11, there was a small but vocal contingent who swore that the people would want to have it put to a vote.
(August 29, 2014) St. Petersburg, Fla -- Charlie Crist sent a letter to Governor Rick Scott today urging him to declare that Florida will not challenge the latest federal ruling on marriage for all issued by U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle. Letter included below.
