Slowly but surely the archaic anti gay adoption ban crumbles one court ruling at a time. Today a Florida court of appeals struck down a lower court ruling that disallowed second parent adoptions by gay couples from other states. "Today, the Florida Court of Appeals unanimously reversed a lower court ruling and held that Florida must give full faith and credit to adoptions granted to same-sex couples by other states, holding that Lara Embry, the plaintiff in the case, “must be given the same rights as any other adoptive parent in Florida.”

Each year we get a slew of calls from people complaining that AAA refused to provide a family or associate membership to the callers partner. Often a few extra phone calls gets the matter resolved with the partner's name added but in recent years, it appears AAA (at least in Florida) has come down on the side of ignoring gay couples, even those who have been legally married elsewhere or have civil union or domestic partnership status.

Rubio jumped in the US Senate race last week, Crist couldn't let him get too big a head start. News outlets are reporting Crist will announce on Tuesday that he will be running for US Senate. Crist runs for Senate and the political shakeup begins. I wonder which fabulous cabinet member will run for governor? From the Associated Press: The head of the state Republican Party says Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will announce his 2010 political plans Tuesday and hinted that the U.S. Senate is his target.

A couple of weeks ago we alerted you to a dangerous election bill that crept up in the final days of session. Many of you took swift action, thousands of e-mails were sent to House and Senate leadership as well as the governor. Great news- the bill has been defeated. Leadership declared the bill dead when there was widespread public outcry over this broad reaching bill. I wanted to let you know a little more about this bill and why Equality Florida was involved in defeating it.

Oh, the 2010 election is SO on. Former Speaker of the Florida House, Marco Rubio (R- Miami), announced today he will run for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Republican Mel Martinez. This will make for an interesting race with tough primaries for both parties. It is widely speculated Governor Charlie Crist will also be jumping in. Crist has high popularity ratings and will be a formidable opponent. Read the story here
