This Thursday the City Commission of Miami will hear the second and final reading of the City of Miami Domestic Partnership Ordinance. Our colleagues at Save Dade are leading the effort to pass this critical ordinance which would provide city employees equal access to insurance for their families regardless of sexual orientation.

Today, after almost a week of dropping hints, Rep. Richard Steinberg (D- 106) announced via Facebook status that he is NOT running for the Florida Senate District 35 in 2010. Instead, he announced his decision to seek another term in the House and support for former Senator Gwen Margolis' candidacy for the Senate seat.

The court said it will not hear an appeal from former Army Capt. James Pietrangelo II, who was dismissed under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy.

1. Shuffling down the tax rate. In many relationships, one spouse earns more than the other. Sometimes, the higher income could -for an individual--mean a much higher tax rate.

Stratton CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The state Supreme Court has allowed an infant to stay with her same-sex foster parents in Fayette County. In a unanimous decision released on Friday, the justices determined that Fayette Circuit Judge Paul Blake erred when he allowed the state Department of Health and Human Resources to approve the infant's removal from her foster home.

4 teens charged as adults in locker room sexual assault case By John Couwels CNN (CNN) -- Four teenage boys in Tampa, Florida, were charged as adults Wednesday on allegations of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy. Lee Louis Myers, 14, from Tampa, Florida, is one of the defendants in the case.1 of 3 Charged with four counts each of sexual battery were Randall John Moye, 14; Raymond A. Price-Murray, 14; Lee Louis Myers, 14; and Diamante J. Roberts, 15. CNN is naming the defendants because they were charged as adults.

Nadine Smith, executive director for Equality Florida, will be speaking in Tampa (and via video conference firm-wide) on Monday, June 8th to address one of Florida's most prominent law firms, Carlton Fields. Nadine will talk about the history and current status of state and federal laws regarding workplace discrimination and protection, recognition of LGBT relationships and the Florida statute banning adoption by gay parents.
