ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Equality Florida is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for Florida’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Through education, grassroots organizing, coalition building, and legislative advocacy, Equality Florida works to protect and advance the rights of LGBTQ Floridians and their families.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Transgender Equality Fellowship supports the Director of Transgender Equality in organizing and facilitating community-based projects across Florida. This role focuses on advancing initiatives that improve the quality of life for trans, nonbinary, and intersex individuals. The Fellow will assist in resource development, coalition building, and event coordination aimed at promoting equality and inclusivity statewide.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in organizing and coordinating community events and initiatives across Florida.
  • Support the development and maintenance of the statewide transgender resource guide.
  • Conduct research and analysis on issues impacting trans communities, including legislative tracking and policy analysis.
  • Help manage communications and outreach efforts to engage trans and allied communities.
  • Collaborate with Equality Florida staff and external partners on advocacy campaigns and educational initiatives.
  • Provide administrative support as needed, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and maintaining records.

LOCATION:

This position is remote with potential travel based in Florida.

COMMITMENT:

Up to 20 hours per week, with flexibility based on project needs.

PAY:

$15 - $18  per hour, including travel time if applicable.

COMPENSATION:

This is an unpaid fellowship opportunity designed for academic credit or professional development experience. Equality Florida can work with educational institutions to meet internship requirements.
