Dear Friend,

If you signed up to Vote by Mail for the August 14th Primary Election, you should receive your ballot in the next few days.

This election will be hotly contested and incredibly important for Orange County's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. Below you can find a short list of critical candidates that Equality Florida Action PAC has endorsed for the August 14th ballot.

Please take a moment to review our slate of champions in Orange County and if you’ve received your absentee ballot, fill in their names and mail it in right away!

Remember: If you choose to vote at an early vote or election day polling site you MUST present precinct workers with your absentee ballot. We recommend you use your voice NOW and fill out and mail your absentee ballot today.

IMPORTANT - We have not completed our endorsement process and will be endorsing more candidates. However, we wanted to share these key races with you right now, so you will have them when filling out your absentee ballot.

Joe Saunders is running in a newly created district in east Orange County, and if elected, will become the first out gay person to serve in the Florida legislature. So far, Joe has proven himself as a leading candidate and a strong fundraiser. For the last seven years Joe has worked as the Statewide Field Director for Equality Florida, leading dozens of campaigns to pass non-discrimination and domestic partner policies in Orange County and across the state. He faces a primary opponent and if he wins on August 14, will head on to the general election. Joe is also endorsed by the Algmated Transit Union (member of AFL-CIO), AFSCME, Orange County Professional Firefighters Local 2057, Police Benevolent Association, and SEIU.

If elected on August 14th, Gina Duncan will become the first out transgender person elected to public office in Florida. Gina is a well-rounded candidate with a long history as a voice for equality in Orlando and Orange County. Currently, Gina serves as the President of the Metropolitan Business Association (MBA), Orange County’s LGBT Chamber of Commerce and a former member of the Human Rights Campaign National Business Council. Before running MBA, Gina spent 30 years as a senior manager and executive in the banking industry, with the last 13 years at Wells Fargo.

Elected to the Florida House in 2006, Geraldine Thompson has proven herself as a champion for LGBT Floridians. During her time in Tallahassee, Geraldine co-sponsored legislation to prevent the discrimination of LGBT people and has served on the Honorary Host Committee for the Equality Florida Orlando Gala. She served 24 years as Director of Equal Opportunity and Assistant to the President of Valencia College, ensuring women and underrepresented people were employed at all levels of the institution. If elected to the Florida Senate, Geraldine will continue to fight for LGBT Floridians.
