South Florida Development Positions:

Palm Beach Development Intern:

EQFL Palm Beach is seeking a qualified intern to work within and contribute to our Development team. The position will be part-time or full-time and is unpaid. Academic credit can be arranged. The internship spans a range of responsibilities in the Development department including managing and cultivating relationships with donors, maintaining records, contributing to research projects, and coordinating with volunteers. The intern position will be focused on assisting the Development Associate with our annual Gala.

College or Graduate students with emphasis in their studies on English, Communications, Public Relations, Social Work, Gender Studies, Political Science, or Public and/or Non-profit Administration are encouraged to apply

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist Development Associate in development of volunteer fundraisers program, including: researching and sharing best practices for fundraising events and campaigns; communicating regularly via email and telephone with volunteer fundraisers and committee members.
  • Assist in general donor stewardship
  • Communicate with current and prospective donors
  • Help maintain and update donor databases
  • Assist Development staff in organizing day-to-day communications with individual and company donors
  • Assist Development staff in drafting fundraising emails
  • Assist Development staff in event planning and coordination
  • Research projects, prospects, and initiatives for the Development team
  • Draft profiles of prospective donors for Development team
  • Perform general administrative duties to assist EQFL Development staff, to include general filing and data entry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with research a plus
  • Experience working with databases a plus, with Salesforce or similar CRM experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive issues and information
  • An understanding of EQFL’s programs and interest in its mission

Commitment:
Part-time: 20 hours per week for 8 weeks

Compensation:
Paid $12/hour

Equality Florida is pleased to provide a wonderful learning experience to energized and dynamic young leaders who will become a part of statewide efforts to create a fair and safe environment for all Floridians, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

The engine that makes that work possible is the Development program--fundraising!! The Broward Development team, based in Wilton Manors, has internship openings for the spring semester.

As an Equality Florida Development Intern, students will learn many aspects of non-profit organization, with an emphasis in fundraising. Interns will learn about 501c3, a 501c4, and a Political Action Committee (PAC) entities. The Development team educates prospective donors (individual and corporate sponsors) about the important work being done by Equality Florida. This includes The Safe and Healthy Schools Project, The HIV Advocacy Program, Transgender Inclusion and Equality Means Business, as well as our Policy and Political work. Successful candidates will have an opportunity to participate in many facets of the work of the largest statewide LGBTQ rights organization in the United States!

A Development Intern learns alongside the South Florida Development team in fundraising, event planning, and programming in the South Florida region. The internship will develop skills in community outreach, representation at local Commission meetings, Prides, GSA and other events, recruitment of new members, donors and volunteers, communications and calendar scheduling duties, tracking and ordering of EQFL materials, set up and staffing of events, recruitment of elected officials as Honorary Host Committee members for Gala events, etc.

Requirements:

  • A reliable laptop and cell phone are needed and will not be provided.
  • Good spoken and written English and composition skills
  • Events are sometimes held on weekends and in the evening and interns should be available to attend and help at these events when necessary.

Google Drive platform, corresponding to Word, Excel and Powerpoint

Compensation: Unpaid
Interns may also arrange with their major professor to receive class credit.

Commitment:
Applicants should expect to devote at least 20 hours per week (individual schedules will be developed) and to be in the Wilton Manors office at least two days per week during daytime office hours between 9 am and 6 pm.
