Governor Scott Fails To Mention Pulse Attack Targeted LGBTQ & Latinx Communities In State of the State Address


The landscape in Tallahassee has shifted dramatically for Equality Florida as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this year as a progressive organization with unprecedented levels of support. ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Yesterday, President Donald Trump’s Administration, under the direction of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, rescinded Title IX guidance for transgender students.
There’s a new threat in Tallahassee to our hard won LGBTQ protections.
A bill (HB 17) that would repeal a range of local policies, including LGBTQ nondiscrimination ordinances, is being fast-tracked through the Florida House.

Yesterday, President Trump affirmed that he will keep President Obama's executive order that created new workplace protections for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender federal employees and contractors. This is welcome news following rumors that he was poised to repeal these important protections.
Earlier this month, the Jacksonville City Council introduced an update to their Human Rights Ordinance (HRO) that would protect LGBTQ citizens in housing, employment and public spaces.
A victory in Jacksonville would mean nearly 1 million more Floridians will live in a place with these basic LGBTQ protections, joining cities like Tampa, Orlando, and Miami. And, this victory could push momentum forward to pass a statewide non-discrimination law!
