EQUALITY FLORIDA TO HONOR FRED P. HOCHBERG AT 2024 MIAMI CELEBRATION

Miami, FL – Equality Florida is proud to announce that Fred P. Hochberg will be honored at the 2024 Miami Celebration, taking place at the Rusty Pelican in Key Biscayne on Saturday, March 16th.

Mr. Hochberg is a distinguished leader and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, a champion of equality, and a trailblazer in the fight for social justice. Throughout his career, Hochberg has worked tirelessly to advance LGBTQ+ rights, economic opportunity, and diversity in the workplace. Hochberg made history in 2009 when President Obama nominated him to become Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States. Upon his confirmation, Hochberg became the first openly gay man to lead a U.S. federal agency.

Hochberg’s engagement began in the 1970's with his early support of Lambda Legal, and many other LGBTQ organizations that grew with the HIV/AIDS crisis. He served as Finance Chair for the Campaign for Military Service in 1993, served as a board member and later co-chair of the Human Rights Campaign, and is the founder of the David Bohnett LGBT Leadership Fellows Scholarship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. Nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1997, Hochberg was one of the first wave of LGBTQ nominees to be confirmed by the US Senate.

"We are absolutely delighted to recognize Fred P. Hochberg at the 2024 Miami Celebration," said Nadine Smith, Executive Director of Equality Florida. "Fred's unwavering dedication to equality and tireless efforts in fostering a more inclusive society have profoundly touched the lives of LGBTQ individuals nationwide. His leadership has left an indelible mark, and we are deeply honored to pay tribute to him."
