Equality Florida Condemns Trump's Racist Attack On President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama
Equality Florida condemns President Trump’s vile, racist video depicting President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as apes on Truth Social. The fact that Trump personally approved the post, doubled down on it, and refused to apologize makes clear this was no accident or lapse in judgment. It was intentional. It was dehumanizing. And it is white supremacy.
This goes far beyond “distraction.” Trump is deliberately targeting the Obamas, two of the most impactful and respected leaders of our time, as part of a broader strategy of division. This is what failed leaders do when they face public backlash: they lash out, scapegoat, and inflame hatred to maintain power.
At a moment when communities across the country, including cities like Minneapolis, are protesting the aggressive deployment of ICE and the ongoing attacks on Black and Brown people, Trump chose to pour gasoline on the fire. Racism is not a side effect of his leadership. It is a tool of it.
That this video was posted during Black History Month makes the act even more reprehensible. This is a time meant to honor the leadership, culture, joy, and innovations of Black Americans who have shaped this nation. Instead, Trump used racist propaganda to demean and dehumanize.
We demand that elected officials at every level speak out clearly and unequivocally. Silence is complicity. This racism must be fully rejected, condemned, and confronted, especially when it is coming from the White House itself.
