Position Description:

Equality Florida is seeking a Field Organizer in the South East Florida region to join regional and statewide programs the organization is running throughout Florida. The Field Organizer will report directly to the Field Director and will oversee the execution of the organizing, coalition building, volunteer management, Pride and other LGBTQ events, and the pro-equality voter contact program. The Field Organizer will develop issues-based organizing plans and work to increase Equality Florida’s visibility and presence. The Field Organizer will be responsible for recruiting and building a team of volunteers and training them, attending Pride Festivals, hosting electoral Days of Action for pro-equality candidates, and coalition building. Strong coalition skills are essential as Field Organizers are called often to build strong partnerships with state and local LGBTQ and allied organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Coalition Building: Develop rapport with current partners of Equality Florida, and cultivate new relationships from LGBTQ and progressive organizations in the South Florida region. This can include building 1-on-1 calls and collaborating with coalition partners, participating in recurring coalition meetings, and sharing resources between coalition members.
  • Electoral Activities: Working with the Field Team, and other Equality Florida staff as needed, to implement electoral strategies in support of pro-equality candidates and Days of Action, as well as provide assistance to Equality Florida-supported ballot initiative campaigns.
  • Training: Help lead the design and implementation of training programs for Equality Florida’s members, Equality Captains, volunteers, and supporters. Support volunteer trainings which have a goal of training and mobilizing hundreds of volunteer advocates.
  • Volunteer Support: Develop and enhance methods for recruiting, diversifying, and maintaining Equality Florida’s volunteer network. Which include, but are not limited to, regularly reaching out to Equality Captains, active volunteers, and continually working to identify new volunteers through phone calls, texting, and other practices, and building relationships with local volunteers and hosting both 1:1 meetings and neighborhood meetings to create community.

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years experience as either an organizer, fellow, or volunteer preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in electoral campaigns or field operations focused on voter contact preferred.
  • Experience in volunteer management and coalition building preferred.
  • Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use google docs, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective organization skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to motivate staff members
  • Ability to problem solve effectively and creatively
  • Have a deep passion for LGBTQ rights and a commitment to advancing Equality Florida’s goals and objectives
  • Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply; Spanish preferred

Job Hours and Salary:

  • Full-time position; some weekend and evening hours required
  • Salary range is from $42,000 to $46,000 annually depending on experience and qualification
  • Benefits include full medical, dental, life, LTD, STD, generous paid time off and retirement benefits
