Position Description:

The Field Organizer is a regular, full-time entry-level position who reports to the Field Director. 

The Field Organizer will work with Field and Public Policy Staff to execute political and educational organizing activities. These include expanding Equality Florida’s ability to mobilize grassroots advocacy on behalf of LGBTQ legislative priorities, designing and implementing grassroots electoral and campaign strategies in support of endorsed candidates, legislative campaigns, local policy campaigns and ballot initiatives. Field Organizers develop issues-based organizing plans and work to increase Equality Florida’s visibility and presence. Strong coalition skills are essential as field organizers are called often to build strong partnerships with state and local LGBTQ and allied organizations. 

Starting salary is $35,000 or commensurate with experience. All full-time positions are offered a robust benefits package including 403B retirement program match and employer-provided health, dental, vision and life insurance. 

Position Responsibilities: 

Electoral Activities: Working with the Field Team, and other Equality Florida staff as needed, to implement electoral strategies in support of pro-equality candidates, as well as provide assistance to Equality Florida-supported ballot initiative campaigns.

Pride and Outreach Program: The Field Organizer will manage the Equality Florida Pride Program in markets as needed. With Florida being home to one of the country’s most robust pride festival schedules, the Field Organizer ensures high visibility for Equality Florida and works to ensure that we educate and engage our community while recruiting new volunteers. Additional outreach events, outside of the Pride calendar, are targeted as well (Rallies, Press Conferences, etc).

Training: Help lead the design and implementation of training programs for Equality Florida’s members, volunteers, and supporters. Support activist boot camps which have a goal of training and mobilizing hundreds of volunteers advocates annually.  

Advocacy: Work with the Field and Public Policy team to organize and execute dynamic advocacy programs in support of local, state and federal policy priorities. Programs include, but are not limited to, the Equality Florida Annual Lobby Days program, local policy initiatives, in-district legislative organizing, coalition engagement, and voter education initiatives.  

Volunteer Support: Develop and enhance methods for recruiting and maintaining Equality Florida’s volunteer network. 

Field Organizer should:

  • Have 1 - 3 years of organizing or field experience 
  • Experience in electoral campaigns or field operations focused on voter contact preferred. 
  • Have the ability to travel at least 30% of the time with possibility for short-term deployment to priority regions 
  • Be highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment 
  • Have a deep passion for LGBTQ rights and a commitment to advancing Equality Florida’s goals and objectives
  • Show good character and judgment
  • Exhibit effective organization skills 
  • Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply; Spanish preferred
