Florida Competitive Workforce Act (FCWA)
The Florida Competitive Workforce Act (FCWA) prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity or expression in employment, housing and public accommodations. The FCWA would amend Chapter 760 of the Florida State Statues that currently prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex national origin, age, handicap, or marital status.
The bill, in its current form, was first introduced in 2009 by Representative Kelly Skidmore and Senator Ted Deutch. In 2010 the bill received its first legislative workshop in the Senate Commerce Committee. In 2016, the bill received its first committee hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. As of 2018, 45% of sitting legislators signed on to sponsor or co-sponsor the bill, making it the third most sponsored or co-sponsored piece of legislation that year.
