In 2010, the most urgent issue for our community, the real political game changer is Fair Districts.
We are winning the public education battle. The majority of Floridians support our agenda for equality but it doesn’t translate into action in Tallahassee because the balance of power in our capitol is decided before the first vote is cast.
Lawmakers essentially rig the election by using software to select the "perfect demographic mix" even if it means irrational, preposterously drawn district boundaries. Districts should be drawn to ensure the people are represented, not to secure automatic selection of whichever political party is in power.
This November, we urge Floridians to support Constitutional Amendments 5 and 6 to create a fair and accountable system for drawing election boundaries. Amendments 5 and 6 will help us elect a balanced legislature that reflects the voters of Florida - voters who already support the core issues of equality:
- Ending Workplace Discrimination
- Securing Legal Protections for LGBT Families
- End Florida's adoption ban
