The day after World AIDS Day, the Florida Department of Health announced a dramatic reduction of the number of people on the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) wait list. According to an announcement yesterday by the Department, the wait list has been cut by 80%.
The Department shifted $1 million from general revenue to ADAP, a program that provides drugs to HIV positive patients. In September the program has 4,184 patients on the wait list, approximately half of all wait list patients in the US. Thanks to the additional money, there are now 806 people on the wait list in Florida.
President Obama has also announced an additional $35 million in funding to state drug assistance programs.
