This fascinating exhibit premieres at the Museum of Art – Ft. Lauderdale the same weekend as the Equality Florida Annual Broward Gala!

All of the original works on view in American Chronicles are drawn from the permanent collection of the Norman Rockwell Museum and traces the evolution of Rockwell’s art and iconography throughout his career. Equality Florida is proud to host our Broward Gala at this beautiful museum and be able to provide our guests with an in-depth exhibition commentary, a decade-by-decade installation of forty-two original artworks and a complete set of 323 archival Saturday Evening Post cover tear sheets, which span forty-seven years.

The evening begins at 5:00 PM but our guests are invited to arrive at 4:30 PM to spend some time in a private viewing of the Norman Rockwell exhibit. Included in the free tour will be headsets that provide a fascinating narrative on each art piece, as well as trained museum staff members at each major art piece for a more personal presentation. From 5-7 PM we will be offering complimentary hors d’oeuvres, an open bar, a State of the State address by our Executive Director, Nadine Smith, and special guest speaker, Florida CFO and candidate for Governor, Alex Sink. After the event, the museum will keep the exhibit available until 7:30 PM for guests that want to see more.

Please read below for more details about the museum and the exhibit:

Norman Rockwell (1894 – 1978) painted the best of America, creating indelible images of the lives, hopes and dreams of America in the 20th century. Expertly weaving both narrative and painterly images, he was a consummate visual storyteller with a finely honed sense of what made an image successful in the new, rapidly changing era of mass media. Rockwell’s unique artistic legacy, established during 65 years of painting, offers a personal chronicle of 20th century life and aspirations that has both reflected and profoundly influenced American perceptions and ideals.
